For most of us 2013 had its sweet and sour moments but when one takes a look at some of the celebrities their lives seems to be much grander and more interesting, especially under a microscope. Of all the new and interesting faces that have emerged in the Colors family over the past year it is Karan Johar who has caught our attention with the tightest grip and be it his impeccable one-liners or his candidness we have loved everything about KJo over the past year!

From the time he did a cameo in Aditya Chopra’s Dilwale Dulhaniya Lejayenge to now Karan has made some impressive progress in the span of his career. After successfully managing Dharam Productions he will now be seen in a full-fledged role in Anurag Kashyap’s Bombay Velvet.

Karan plays a negative role in this one alongside Ranbir Kapoor and Anushka Sharma and the movie is scheduled to release later next year. He plays the role of a Parsi journalist and was quoted calling this his ‘bungee-jumping act in life’. On his role he said, “I have always wanted to act in one film, it’s been the only thing left to do in the film domain.”

Karan had an amazing start off with Colors this year when he once again sat in the jury’s chair along with Madhuri Dixit and Remo D’Souza for Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa season 6. After his first successful stint in 2012 for the same show, Karan continued to be a part of the Colors family and even judged India’s Got Talent season 4 with fellow jury members Malaika Arora Khan and Kirron Kher.  Soon he became a regular and in 2014 too, he will be seen judging yet another season of India’s Got Talent.

In other news, after a gap of two years Karan can once again be seen chatting and playing rapid fire with his film fraternity friends over a cup of coffee and getting out all the gossip possible. It is with Koffee with Karan that he gained reputation as an anchor and still today is considered one of the most candid and entertaining anchors on small screen.

Karan not only adds a level of competence in the show but also brings in the entertainment factor which is highly loved by the audiences. His comic timing has emerged out to be one of his best hidden talents and he even experimented with his dancing abilities letting himself go each time his movie songs would play. If for nothing else, 2013 will surely be remembered as the year in which Karan Johar mastered his dancing steps on the song ‘Radha’ from his movie SOTY.

In fact earlier in the year Karan was quoted saying that he’s been strictly warned by his mother, Hiroo Johar, to not dance on TV as his moves are quite embarrassing and his reply to this was that considering he’s a frustrated actor he might actually lose it one day and just dance like never before. Well, guess it happened then. Woot!

Karan Johar – The Ace Filmmaker

When KJo is not judging contestants based on their dance and other talents he’s busy doing his primary job – filmmaking.  While most of his movies this year fared slightly okay at the box office it was Ranbir-Deepika starrer Yeh Jawani Hai Deewani that brought in all the moolah filling in his quota for 2013. With the biggest opening ever of Rs.62.11crore the movie went on to cross Rs.188 crores in a month making it the fourth highest grossing film in India.

As the head honcho of Dharma Productions, earlier movies produced by Karan have had some rough days and while some did succeed in minting large amounts but looking at the tremendous success of Yeh Jawani Hai Deewani , Karan proved once again that he is his father’s best successor. Commenting on this achievement he said, “Post-2001, there were only two-three love stories, we stopped making them, Yeh Jawani…revisited the genre that was lying vacant.  But I would be lying if I said I expected this kind of a response.”

Karan Johar – Lineup for 2014

While 2013 has gone by pretty well for Karan, 2014 too promises to be rocking.  We already are expecting to see him rule India’s got Talent season 5 with his brilliant judging and if last season is anything to go by then Karan will surely set the standards a notch higher for the coming season. So get ready to watch him guide, mentor and pick out best of the talents and bring to us the best of the lot.

Other than working with Colors, seven of his movies are slated to release next year under Dharma Productions. Sadly none of these movies will be directed by Karan himself but all in all 2014 seems to be a bigger year for our favourite judge and after seeing him entertain us in Jhalak and IGT, the upcoming seasons seem to get more and more promising!
