Shahid Kapoor

Shahid Kapoor’s father is actor Pankaj Kapoor of Karamchand fame and his mother is actress and classical dancer Neelima Azeem. His parents are divorced. His stepmother is actress Supriya Pathak.

He has a half-sister Sana and two half-brothers, Ishaan and Ruhan. Ishaan acted with Shahid in the film, Vaah! Life Ho To Aisi (2005).

Shahid studied first at Gyanbharati in Delhi and later at Rajhans Vidyalaya in Mumbai. As a child, Shahid starred in the ad for Complan along with Ayesha Takia.

Shahid Kapoor was just 18 when he landed the commercial for Pepsi purely by chance. He starred in the ad along with Shah Rukh Khan, Kajol and Rani Mukerji. Shahid also starred in a music video for the band Aryans along with his college sweetheart, Hrishita Bhatt.

Shahid is an expert dancer, trained under none other than Shiamak Davar. In 1999, Shahid had a small part in the hit movie Taal as a dancer in the background along with Aishwarya Rai in the son Kahiin Aag Lage Lag Jaawe.

Shahid Kapoor made his debut in Bollywood with the moderately successful Ishq Vishk (2003) opposite actress Amrita Rao and won the Filmfare Best Male Debut Award for his performance.

Shahid first box office success came with the multi-starrer, 36, China Town (2006). Vivah (2006) in which he starred along with Amrita Rao was a blockbuster and Shahid’s biggest commercial success at that point.

Shahid Kapoor’s latest release, the romantic comedy, Jab We Met, opposite Kareena Kapoor, proved to be a major success both in India and the UK. Shahid’s performance won him critical acclaim.

Starting off his career by working in music videos and advertisements, Kapoor made his Bollywood debut as a background dancer in Subhash Ghai's Taal (1999).

Four years later, he made his acting debut in Ishq Vishk (2003) and won a Filmfare Award for Best Male Debut for his performance.

Following through with films like Fida (2004) and Shikhar (2005), he had his first commercial success with Sooraj R. Barjatya's Vivah (2006), his biggest commercial success, and followed it up with Jab We Met (2007) and Kaminey (2009), both of which earned him Best Actor nominations at the Filmfare ceremony.

His upcoming venture, Teri Meri Kahaani opposite Priyanka Chopra is expected for release on 22 June, 2012.
