Anil Kapoor’s mega-project, 24, is in the news for various reasons. Apart from the massive scale that the show is being mounted on, the interesting mix of actors that have been cast till now also deserves a mention. Let’s take a look at the cast of 24.
Anil Kapoor- The main lead of the show, Anil plays the role of Jai Singh Rathod, a Counter-Terrorism Unit officer. This is a reprisal of the role of Jack Bauer, Kiefer Sutherland’s character in the original 24. He has already started shooting for the show and will be seen in a rugged look suited to the role of an on-field operative.
Anupam Kher- The veteran actor agreed to be part of the show on friend Anil Kapoor’s insistence, who wanted Anupam to play an important role in his dream project. Anupam Kher plays the role of Wasim Khan, an intelligence officer who helps Jai Singh Rathod thwart the assassination attempt.
Pooja Ruparel- Pooja, who we know as the adorable Chutki from Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge, has also been cast in 24. She will be playing the important role of a minister’s aide on the show. (Read more about it here)
Adhir Bhatt- This young actor was chosen for 24 when Anil Kapoor watched his performance in a play on a friend’s recommendation. He plays the role of Tejpal Singh, Jai's colleague in the ATU, who has a difficult time keeping his personal and professional lives separate.
Ajinkya Deo- Ajinkya Deo, noted Marathi actor and the brother of 24 director Abhinay Deo, is one of the more experienced members of the cast. He will be seen playing the role of an anti-terrorism agent Abhay.
Rahul Singh- This intense looking actor has also found a place in the cast of 24. Rahul Singh has worked with Abhinay Deo in his maiden directorial venture, Delhi Belly and will now work with him in his first project on TV. Rahul plays the role of Vikrant Maurya, a selfish and alcohol-addled politician, a role tailor made for the thinking actor.
Shabana Azmi- She has been a powerhouse performer on the big screen, joined the cast of 24 as Abhilasha Grewal, who takes over the reins of ATU in Jai Singh Rathod's absence. Shabana shot for the show with a fractured hand, and loved the experience of playing the no-nonsense intelligence officer.
Tisca Chopra- She won hearts in Taare Zameen Par, plays a pivotal role in 24 as Trisha Rathod, Jai's wife. Tisca will not only be Mrs. Rathod, but will also be seen as a protective mother who can go to any extent to save her kidnapped daughter.
Mandira Bedi- She has been seen as an anchor on television for the last few years, but will be seen slipping back into the acting mode as she plays Nikita Rai, Jai Singh Rathod's second-in-command in the ATU. Fiercely loyal and brave, Nikita Rai's character fits Mandira Bedi like a glove.
Neil Bhoopalam- VJ, actor and theatre artist Neil Bhoopalam plays the role of political scion Aditya Singhania, whose life is threatened a day before he is to take the Prime Minister's chair. One look at Neil Bhoopalam in a young politician's attire and you know he was meant to do the role.
